As a part of the “Text Messages” series, ”Exotic Food Buffet” is a hand-built ceramic pot/ cup created through using the slab-technique that depicts scenes of dark humour.

The inside of the cup shows a conversation between two friends, one of them inviting the other for dinner. Little does the other friend know he is the dinner…

The inspiration comes from periods of daydreaming various, typically strange, surrealist scenarios that can be painted in light, seemingly harmless, colourful and illustrative ways.

This scene of cannibalism could almost be denoted as ‘cute’ due to the bright colours and soft painted shapes. Through this disarming perspective, I express my enjoyment of dark humour and fantastical story telling.

This ceramic cup, ”Exotic Food Buffet”, was carefully crafted out of stoneware clay using the handbuilding technique known as slab-building. The clay is then folded in a way that compliments the illustration as the folds almost mimic the texture of paper creating a lively doodled-on effect to the overall look of the piece.

”Exotic Food Buffet” can be used as a cup, small vase or a pen stand. This series of small ceramic pots are multi-functional to suit all your decorative needs. This stoneware piece is decorated with under-glaze illustrations and then finished with a transparent glaze and fired to 1200 degrees.
