These pieces started out as simple, symmetrical forms. Then I started messing with them.

I pushed, folded, pressed, stretched, and distorted the clay until each form slowly moved away from its original shape. The idea was to think about how we, too, may begin as blank slates and then get shaped by everything life throws at us.

Some things leave bigger marks than others. Some change our shape completely. And, thankfully, nobody comes out looking exactly the same.

These pieces are made through that same process. They begin with a shared structure, but each one is then pushed in a different direction. The uneven edges, and distortions become part of their individual character. What might initially look like imperfections are actually the things that make each piece its own.

The collection is about how the things that alter us are also the things that make us recognisable. We may start from similar places, but the experiences, pressures, and little accidents along the way shape us into something entirely our own.

The pieces are finished with layered glazes that bring out the textures and variations created during the making process. Like the forms themselves, the surfaces are deliberately unpredictable no two pieces could ever turn out exactly alike.
